Briefing
on the UN Democracy Caucus

The
Council for a Community of Democracies, the United Nations
Association of the USA, Freedom House, the Democracy Coalition
Project and the Transnational Radical Party co-sponsored a
briefing on the United Nations Democracy Caucus on December
16, at the UN. This event was organized to provide an opportunity
for dialogue on the caucus. Chile’s Permanent Representative
to the UN, Heraldo Muñoz, who has played the leading
role as convener the Democracy Caucus under the aegis of the
Community of Democracies at the current session of the UNGA,
reported on the progress and prospects of the caucus. Hungarian
Ambassador to the US Andras Simonyi provided background on
recent developments related to the establishment of a Democracy
Transition Center in Budapest. Richard C. Rowson, President
of the Council for a Community of Democracies, and William
Luers, President of the United Nations Association, co-chaired
the briefing.
