  • Regional Workshops are now completed. (See below for summaries) The Final Meeting of the Non-governmental Process for the Community of Democracies, which had been scheduled to take place in January, took place on March 3rd and 4th, 2005, in Santiago, Chile and convened participants from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Russia and the NIS to discuss the non governmental strategy for the months before the Ministerial Meeting. Participants will have until May to work with their governments and advocate for the Non-Governmental proposals before the Santiago Ministerial Meeting, which will take place on April 28th, 29th, and 30th of 2005.   • NGOs attend Convening Group meetings in Washington, DC and Santiago, Chile

Regional Workshops (2004 - 2005): The Community of Democracies, a group of more than one hundred democratic countries in the world, will hold its Third Ministerial Meeting in Santiago, Chile in May 2005 to discuss ways to strengthen democracy. To prepare for that meeting, civil society organizations in all of the regions of the world are organizing workshops to identify “democracy deficits” in their region and to offer proposals to the governments on ways to strengthen democracy.
