Brademas, Senior Advisor
Mr. Brademas represented Indiana in the House of Representatives from 1959-81. He was a member of the Democratic leadership serving as House Majority Whip during the 94th and 95th Congresses. As a member of the Committee of Education and Labor he played a leading role in drafting legislation on education. Since leaving Congress he served as President of New York University from 1981-92 and now serves as president emeritus of NYU. In 2005 New York University launched the John Brademas Center for the Study of Congress at NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service to advance both scholarly and public understanding of the role of Congress in the American Constitutional system.
He is former chairman of the President's Committee on Arts and Humanities, the American Ditchley Foundation and the National Endowment for Democracy. A graduate of Harvard, B.A., magna cum laude, and Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where he earned a Ph.D., has been awarded honorary degrees by 55 colleges and universities, including Oxford.
