The Washington Posts’ article, “An Alliance of Democracies” makes a powerful, impassioned plea for a coalition of democratic states. Although the authors of the article were apparently unaware of the existence of the CD (and corrected by CCD President Richard Rowson’s letter to the editor entitled “Already Aligned”), the article further emphasizes the growing public support for and the necessity of an alliance such as the CD. As Daalder and Lindsay argue, the CD should become “the focal point of American foreign policy”. Similarly, David Brooks’ piece “Crisis of Confidence” in the New York Times echoed the call for “a global alliance of democracies to embody democratic ideals…” CD is working to fulfill that call.
