World Forum for Democratization in Asia Meets for its Third Biennial Conference

From September 16-18, more than 200 civil society leaders from Asia met in Seoul, South Korea for the Third Biennial Conference of the World Forum for Democratization in Asia (WFDA). Citing the stalled progress of democratization in Asia, which was exacerbated by the global financial crisis, the WFDA adopted “Sustaining Democracy in Asia: Challenges of Social and Economic Justice" as the theme for the conference. Participants concluded by adopting the Seoul Declaration on Democracy and Economic and Social Justice, identifying challenges facing the region and strategies for strengthening democracy.
