NGO Condemns Lack of Self Autonomy in Cameroon Electoral Observer; Calls for Creation of Independent Committee
February 12, 2007

Cameroon NGO Humanus International has released a press statement condemning its governments creation of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), an election management organ of the government, marking “a regression compared to NEO (current electoral observer),” a Presidential appointed body that is “refused by Cameroonians.”  The NEO suffered from a “lack of autonomy,” and according to Humanus International ELECAM will not guarantee honest elections. The group goes on to call for the creation of an independent national electoral omission (CENI).
