active) provides full information for the November 14-15 Bucharest
Regional Conference of Community of Democracies nongovernmental
forum (for countries belonging to the Regional East European
Group at the United Nations, plus Estonia)
The
Regional Conference of the Community of Democracies for Central
and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the NGO Forum will be
held in Bucharest, November 14-15, 2003. At the second Regional
Conference of the Community of Democracies, in Seoul, 2002,
Romania offered to host this event.
The
Community of Democracies (CD) is an international
coalition of the democratic nations aimed at fostering cooperation
for the protection and consolidation of democracy.
CD
process was launched in Warsaw, in June 2000 when
for the first time in history, more than 100 democratic countries
agreed, in the Warsaw Declaration, to respect the core democratic
principles and practices.
NGO
Forums accompanied the CD Regional Conferences, being
attended by NGOs representatives from the same countries that
participated in the governmental meeting.
The
Bucharest NGO Forum is an important opportunity for
dialogue in order to advance democratic reforms in CEE.

The
Bucharest NGO Forum official language is English Romanian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Romania Country Office
are organizing in partnership the Bucharest CD Conference
and NGO Forum.
Partners
Foundation for Local Development, FPDL, a Romanian
NGO with extensive experience in promoting good governance
and democratic culture in Romania and CEE, will support UNDP
in organizing the NGO Forum, in terms of logistics and substance.
UNDP
Romania, Local Government Initiative - LGI of the Open Society
Institute, Freedomhouse support financially the NGO
Forum.

Participant
NGOs and any other interested NGOs are encouraged to share
their best practices on Education for Democracy and/or Good
Governance and Anti-Corruption, by filling the Best Practice
