Vietnam Cracks Down on Dissent: Three Pro-Democracy Activists Sentenced to Prison, Three Others Awaiting Trial

According to the International Herald Tribune, the Vietnamese government “continued on its latest crackdown again dissent” by sentencing three pro-democracy activists to prison terms ranging from three to five years.  The activists, Le Nguyen Sang, Nguyen Bac Truyen and Huynh Nguyen Dao, were “found guilty of violating Article 88 of Vietnam’s criminal code, which broadly prohibits disseminating information harmful to the state.”  According to the report, three more activists, two of which are human rights lawyers, will soon be going on trial for similar charges.
