Elizabeth Coleman

Dr. Coleman has been serving as the 9th president of Bennington College since 1987.    Under her leadership Bennington College has emerged from financial difficulties, and has witnessed a growing student body.  Dr. Coleman received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago, Master’s Degree from Cornell University, and her PhD from Columbia University.  She has been a Ford Foundation Scholar, Woodrow Wilson Fellow, and Woodbridge and President’s Fellow, as well as the recipient of honorary degrees from the university of Vermont and Hofstra University.

Dr. Coleman has also been a professor as SUNY Stone Brook and The New School for Social Research.  She served as Dean of the College of arts and Sciences at the latter.  Her dedication to education got her nationally recognized in the Select Committee of the Association of American Colleges.  She also served on the board of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, and as a board member on the Executive Committee of The Annapolis Group.
