Dieter Dettke

Dieter Dettke was Executive Director of the Washington Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation from 1985 to 2006. He studied political science and law at the universities of Strasbourg (France), Bonn, and Berlin (Germany) from 1962-1967. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1967/68, and received his Ph.D. in political science from the Free University of Berlin in 1974. Dr. Dettke was a research associate at the German Council on Foreign Relations in Bonn from 1969 to 1974. He served as political counselor of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) Parliamentary Group of the German Bundestag from 1974 to 1984 and as Staff Director at the Office of the State Minister of the German

Foreign Ministry in 1982. Currently, he is also Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s Security Studies Program. He has published widely on security issues, East-West relations and U.S. foreign and domestic policy. Dieter Dettke is the general editor of International Political Currents.
