David Yang

David Yang serves as Senior Advisor in the Washington office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). In this capacity, Dr. Yang represents UNDP vis-à-vis the U.S. Government, U.S. NGOs and Washington-based inter-governmental organizations, particularly on issues of democratic governance. He also coordinates the UNDP Washington Roundtable, a series of policy forums on international development. As a presidential appointee in the U.S. Government from 1993 to 2001, he served as the State Department’s Senior Coordinator for Democracy Promotion, as a speechwriter for Secretaries of State Warren Christopher and Madeleine Albright, and as a democratic-governance advisor in the U.S. Agency for International Development. During 2001-2002, he founded the Institute for Global Democracy and served as its executive director. Dr. Yang is also on the board of Partners for Democratic Change. He received a B.A. in Politics from the University of California (Santa Cruz) and an M.A. and Ph.D. in International Relations from the School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University.
